Happy New Year!

We begin the New Year coming off a much-appreciated Holiday Break and an even more welcomed (by this writer at least) coating of snow.

In December the community enjoyed the annual Santa’s Breakfast on the12th, Sleigh Ride on the 13th with the help of the “Jolly Old Guy.” He even made a quick visit to our Holiday Concert on the 15th and the evening was a tremendous success.  We want to recognize Mrs. Sullivan for a performance that was praised by all and the staff for all their help in preparation and attendance at the event.  PTA came through as always with refreshments and a very successful Book Fair.  Thanks to Mrs. Gordon and her army of helpers the teachers received over $600 to spend on books in their classrooms.  We look forward to Ski and Snowboard Club in January, as soon as we can get some more snow!  Our 8th Graders thank you all for purchasing raffle tickets as we prepare for our trip to DC and congratulate Mr. Santosuosso for having the winning ticket!

At a recent Administrator’s meeting David Hobbs, WHS Technology Integrator, presented information on using Facebook and Twitter to promote school events and information, and communicate with parents and others interested in our school.  Ms. Casassa, Mr. Hanson, and I will be working with the staff to see how these popular social media sites can help promote Barnard School and we will keep you posted on the progress.  Speaking of Mr. Hanson, he is in the process of conducting an inventory, evaluation, and important updating of our computers, infrastructure, and software.  The staff is delighted to have him on board (as I certainly am) and he has plans to continue to investigate ways to optimize all of our IT resources.

Mission, Vision, and Goals:
I met with Dr. Sullivan on December 22 as we do periodically to review my personal goals, to review a self-evaluation based on the NH Principals Evaluation Frameworks and my progress along that self-evaluation, and to review the 2015-2016 Barnard School Building Goals.  I have included these as attachments to this report, along with copies of our Mission and Vision.  The Frameworks are a 16-page document so I have included a 1-page summary and will post the entire document on my Principal’s Page.  The Building Goals are generated by the staff at the end of each school year and are reflected on and modified at that time. The staff makes every effort to include S.M.A.R.T. (specific, measurable, achievable, results-focused, and time-bound) Goals and tie into School Board Goals. In the meeting we decided that reports on our progress in completing our mission, vision, and goals should be included in every Principal’s Report.  In order to accomplish this, mission, vision, and goals will be on the agenda of every staff meeting to keep these in front of us at all times.

  • Our snowblower has returned from Brentwood Power Equipment, has been serviced and the power chute has been repaired.
  • Magri and Breault has completed the trim repairs under budget and we want to thank Mr. Verge, South Hampton’s Building Inspector, for reviewing the work and providing a Building Permit.
  • Skyline Roofing has repaired exterior leaks to roof vents in the Gym and main building.
  • Breen and Sullivan has completed the annual service on our furnaces and has repaired the ductwork in the Vanbokkelen ceiling that was noted in the ARM report.

Best wishes on a Joyous Holiday Season and, thanks for a great 2015, and Happy 2016!
